Brain Waves That Distinguish False Memories From Real Ones Pinpointed
Brain Waves That Distinguish False Memories From Real Ones Pinpointed
For the first time, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania are able to pinpoint brain waves that distinguish true from false memories, providing a better understanding of how memory works.
Wow! Imagine the implications of this for crime witnesses! I have always thought memory was incredibly fickle, especially since I’ve been married and had kids. We can all see and hear the exact same thing and have five different very sincere memories of what happened. We all perceive things so differently. I wonder if perceptual differences would still count as true memories. And then there’s always the fact that when you hear a story and maybe see a couple pictures of an event, that becomes part of your memory. I’ve seen many times kids get confused about whether they really remember something or not, and whether it happened to them or a sibling or they just heard about it somewhere. I wonder if brain waves can distinguish that too!

Student Learning as a Focus of American Education: What a Concept! -Britannica Blog
In this article (brought to my attention by Joanne Jacobs here, Karin talks about ’sloppy’ education… we have all this data about what our students know and don’t know, and what are we doing to fill those gaps? She shares how every year her Geography scores were far below her scores in all other areas, yet no teacher bothered to explain to her what the equator was so that Geography would be comprehensible to her.

Our local tiny Natural History Museum has monthly live animal demonstrations of one kind or another. One Saturday morning in September we headed over to see the bees. We got to sample their honey too, and feel the beeswax.

A little family rivalry came up when the 49ers played the Steelers.

Now that's pretty bad when I do a season at a time. Actually just part of a season. These events are from August to early October.
August 1st I started new position with the charter school that I work for. It has been very hectic! Things are slowing down a bit now that 'launch' is over. I can breathe occasionally.

I was finally able to get all of my archives from various platforms to load into Wordpress. Very exciting. From 2003-2005 I used Geeklog, which doesn't have an export function. I was never able to get it to import properly anywhere. For some reason this weekend I played around with it and got it to import into my Wordpress I had installed on my own server. I also imported from here and now have it all in one place! Woohoo! Of course I still have work to do going back and reattaching photos and stuff, but eventually I want to print my blog or portions of it in book form for archival purposes so having it all in one place is great!
So... I think I may continue to write previews of posts here, but the real thing will be found at www.unbridledlearning.com.
